Join the conversation San Diego is having with the world.

Two paths in. Free for students with a .edu address, $100 a year for everyone else. The Council is volunteer-run, so what we promise is what we can deliver: full access to programming, a real platform for member voices through the Writer Corps, and a community of practitioners who actually answer their email.

Why people join

Three reasons.

i.

The room.

Members register first and pay less. For sold-out events — and several have been — that’s the difference between attending and reading the recap.

ii.

The network.

Foreign service alumni, retired flag officers, faculty, journalists, attorneys, founders. Members say what makes SDWAC valuable is who’s in the next chair.

iii.

The work.

Members can publish on Insights through the Writer Corps. A byline that says “Contributor, SDWAC” is a real credential — especially for students and emerging professionals.

Frequently asked

Practical questions.

Are guest passes transferable?

Yes. Bring whoever you like. We don’t track guests beyond a name at the door.

Can I gift a Regular membership?

Yes. Email sdwac@sdwac.org and we’ll handle it. Student accounts are already free, so there’s nothing to gift on that side.

How does student verification work?

A current .edu email address is sufficient. We don’t require enrollment letters. Student accounts are free for as long as the .edu remains active; we re-verify once a year.

What about corporate or institutional membership?

That’s sponsorship rather than membership. Email the Council for the current sponsorship tiers and benefits.

Can I cancel?

Annual memberships do not auto-renew without your consent. You’ll get a renewal notice 30 days before expiry.

Are dues tax-deductible?

SDWAC is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit. Membership dues are deductible to the extent allowed by law. Consult your tax advisor.

When can I publish through the Writer Corps?

Immediately. Once you join, log in and submit through the contributor channel. Acknowledgement within seven days.
